Background
Enrofloxacin is a bactericidal, concentration-dependent fluoroquinolone antibiotic with activity primarily against Gram-negative aerobes, such as Enterobacteriaceae and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Gram-positive coverage is limited, though enrofloxacin is efficacious against many Staphylococcus spp., De distributie is breed, ook in abcessen, en de uitscheiding vindt voornamelijk plaats in de urine met ook een kleinere component van de uitscheiding via de gal.
Aanvaardbaar Gebruik
- behandeling van gramnegatieve infecties, of in combinatie met een β-lactamantibioticum, breedspectrumantimicrobiële dekking. Dit omvat gramnegatieve pneumonie, osteomyelitis, of septische artritis.
- behandeling van intracellulaire infecties, zoals Mycoplasma, Neorickettsia of Anaplasma.
- behandeling van interne abcessen, zoals infecties met Corynebacterium pseudotuberculose.,
- Treatment of urinary tract infections.
Unacceptable Uses
- Gram-positive infections other than susceptible Staphylococcus spp.
- Anaerobic infections.
- Should not be used in foals due to risk of articular cartilage damage.
