Primi anni di vita: Ving Rhames è nato Irving Rameses Rhames il 12 maggio 1959, ad Harlem, New York. Sua madre, Reather, era una casalinga, e suo padre, Ernest, ha lavorato come meccanico. Ving ha frequentato la High School of Performing Arts di Manhattan, e dopo la laurea nel 1978, si è iscritto alla State University di New York a Purchase (noto anche come SUNY Purchase), dove il compagno di classe Stanley Tucci gli ha dato il soprannome “Ving.”Rhames si trasferì alla Juilliard, entrando a far parte della Divisione Drama e conseguendo un Bachelor of Fine Arts nel 1983.,
Ving ha ottenuto una nomination ai Blockbuster Entertainment Award per “Entrapment” (1999) e una nomination ai Satellite Award per “Bringing Out the Dead” (1999). Dal 1994 al 1996, è apparso come Walter Robbins, il cognato del Dr. Peter Benton in otto episodi di “ER”, e ha interpretato Don King nel film della HBO del 1997 “Don King: Only in America” e Johnnie Cochran nel film della CBS del 2000 “American Tragedy.,”Dal 2000, Rhames è apparso in più di 50 film, come “Baby Boy” (2001), “Dawn of the Dead” (2004), “Idlewild” (2006), “I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry” (2007) e “Surrogates” (2009). Ha recitato anche in numerosi film TV, ottenendo nomination ai Black Reel Award per ” Holiday Heart “(2000) e” Sins of the Father ” (2002). Ving è anche apparso in spot pubblicitari per RadioShack e ADT, ed è stato la voce di Arby (“We have the meats!”) dal 2014. Ving ha servito come narratore per l’UFC, e ha narrato le presentazioni della squadra durante il Super Bowl LI del 2017.
